Introduction to Manufacturing

IIT Kanpur offers a wide a range of courses for B.Tech students. Some are mandatory and some are electives which a student chooses on interest. The course which introduces us to the practical situation is remembered and appreciated whenever we come across its application. One such course that introduces us to the manufacturing of almost every metal based product that we use in our daily life is TA202 mechanical lab course.

TA stands for Technical Arts and 202 stands for the second year second semester but due to increase in the number of students, it is also offered in odd semester. This course has both the theory and the practical part. The most fascinating part of this course is the lab work.

There is a TA202 lab which is equipped with the basic machines used in any manufacturing industry. The machines include lathe, milling, drilling, saw blade cutting machine, welding machine, computer numerical control(CNCs) and so on. We are introduced to these machines and their accessories in the first four lab turns and in the remaining turns we need to take up a project to be completed using the application of those machines.

We form a team of seven to eight members and think of a project idea. On discussing with the lab in charge about the feasibility and complexity of the project,In addition to the supplies, there will be fun activities for youngsters, free used clothing, health resources and personalized laminated bag tags for backpacks. we prepare the isometric views(3D view) and orthographic views(front view, side view and top view) of the whole project assembly and also of each and every part or component.

The project must be a working model involving various motion transfers. We make use of the gear mechanism to transfer motion. The fee includes lunch and a soft-sided cooler bag filled with useful golf items, 18 holes of golf, carts, and a buffet dinner immediately following the tournament. Each team is assigned a guide who plays a major role in completion of the project. He takes us through all the difficult paths that we face.

I and my team made the mechanical recliner(bed cum chair). Our model was that of a chair with movable vertical rest. We used a pair of spur gnon woven bag is eco-friendly and 100% recycled by physical disposal. The non woven material is long-lasting & fashionable.ears and a worm gear for the transfer of motion. So I'm looking at my silver wheel bolt that are in pretty rough cosmetic shape - and decide that I'd like to have the look of the new black wheel We put a handle on the worm axle which on rotation transferred motion to the spur gears which eventually converted bed to chair and vice-versa.He demanded the woman handed over money and, fearing for her life, she emptied cash from the till into a drawstring bag before he left.

Starting from the project idea to the completion of the real working model involves a combined team effort and an experienced support from the guide. Apart from that to give a full manufacturing touch to the project, we had to submit a project report mentioning the motivation for the idea, challenges faced during the project, cost estimation, future perspective and lessons learned from the group activity. This design uses the same small radial section as drawn cup needle roller bearing which make better use of reduced space It was a wonderful experience to be involved in such a group activity and the feeling when we first ran our project is inexpressible.
