Body of missing fisherman found on Arkansas River

A body was found under the Terry Lock and Dam. 

Keith Stephens with the Arkansas Game and Fish Commission says the body was found around 8:30 a.m. Wednesday morning. 

Chase Herring disappeared Tuesday after his boat overturned while fishing in the Arkansas River. 

Herring was with his friend Caleb Walker when they were thrown from their boat. 

Walker told the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office that he last saw Herring floating on his back. 

Walker said the current pushed him down the river but he eventually made it safely to the west bank. Earlier in the morning, parent Vicky Holub spoke to Sky 2. She had heard from her two children who are students at the school. Sheila Brown dropped her grandson, DeShawn Miller, off at the school in the morning. She was visibly distraught and near tears as she pleaded for some information about her grandson. She had tried to reach him on his cell phone to no avail and got a message to call back later when she called the school. 

Parent Tara Campbell said she received text messages from her daughter about the fight and that her daughter said students who witnessed the episode snapped cellphone photos of the victims as they lay on the ground. 

Campbell said she intended to have her daughter home-schooled, saying she’s grown tired of fights at the school. 

“Last year there were gang fights consistently,” she said. “This is ridiculous. This is an ongoing situation.” 

Lakesia Brent said her son, a sophomore at the school, sent her multiple text messages asking her to come pick him up. 

“He’s just afraid,” she said, adding that fights at the school were a problem in the last academic year. 

Students were not checked through metal detectors, reported parents. 

Spring High School has about 3,500 students, according to GreatSchools.org. 

A parent review of the school on the website reads: “I pulled my child out of the school.
