Shears being sharpened as Tour de Rock nears

"I don't want my hair anymore," the seven, but soon turning eight-year-old said about donating 20-or-so inches to the Canadian Cancer Society as part of the Tour de Rock campaign.

"I just really want to to raise a lot of money for cancer."

The Carlson's School of Dance student and her mom Sandra High are both donating locks to the cause and having their cuts/shaves done when the Tour de Rock riders make their Duncan,Their UWin IPS, short for Indoor Positioning System, is like GPS for the indoors, said electrical and computer engineering student Brendan Rhyno. A student at Cowichan's Vancouver Island University and mother of two, Sandra will be shaving her 20-or-so inches completely off to support her daughter's decision to have her first hair cut.

"Amelia has never had a haircut, trims yes, but cut no, ever," said Sandra.

Amelia's nanners (nana) was diagnosed with breast cancer about four years ago.

"Amelia was there for the loss of hair and the choosing of wigs," said Sandra on the Tour de Rock website.

"I was looking at her wig and asked her about it and she took it off and there was nothing there," said the sparky soccer player.

"She's been nattering for over a year about getting a pixie cut," Sandra said.

"We just thought we'd do it all up,diamond floor polishing pads are designed for floor polishing machines to polish,restore or maintain for the marble,concrete,terrazzo,granite etc. and get the ball rolling. We've always been involved with the Tour de Rock, donated and went to events, but just not quite in this capacity."

Nanners is about two years clear of cancer now, but in the meantime, Amelia's papa was diagnosed lung cancer this July and underwent surgery in August. An aunt has also been diagnosed with lung cancer this summer.

Last year, Sandra also lost a friend to breast cancer.

"She was under 30, and left behind her beautiful daughter," she explained on the website.

Together they're hoping to raise $2,000.

And about 40 inches of hair will be donated to make wigs.IWS said it offers residential wind turbines photovoltaics, and emergency power systems that it said can cut cost monthly energy bills.

In between now and the Duncan Tour de Rock shindig, Amelia and Sandra are hoping to spread out donation forms throughout the valley and are also hoping to set up tables at various local locations.
