Strictly Shoes, hot on the heels of the launch of BBC TV’s Strictly Come Dancing and the town’s own Strictly Northampton show, starts on Saturday October 5 and explores the history of ballroom and Latin dance as well as the social signficance in popular culture.

The exhibition will feature costume pieces from Councillor David Mackintosh and Doris Schierer from Step by Step Dance during their time taking part in Strictly Northampton as well as the museum’s own costume collection that has not been on display for many years.

Councillor David Mackintosh, Leader of Northampton Borough Council, said: “The Strictly Come Dancing series has been a real hit throughout the country and as a contestant in last year’s Strictly Northampton, it was great to see our town being involved in something that brought the community together.

To celebrate local dance within the town, the museum will also host several dance events, including street dance demos, ballroom dance lessons and a salsa night for beginners and advanced dancers.

Strictly Shoes will be on display at Northampton Museum and Art Gallery from Saturday October 5 until Sunday January 12, 2014.
